USDA Pay Period Calendar – Payroll transactions are processed bi-weekly by the National Finance Center (NFC). Rarely, the bi-weekly Payroll schedule may need to be altered in order to meet the needs of our clients or ensure that employees receive their wages during the short payroll processing weeks. This communication contains information for Servicing Personnel Offices about our Payroll process and should be shared with Federal employees.
Official payment dates with the Department of Treasury are the Monday after NFC’s biweekly payroll processing. With Treasury’s approval in 1994, Direct Deposit payments were moved to the Monday after the PAYROLL process was completed. Tuesday is for pay periods that are not Monday Federal holidays. Saturday is not the official date for payment.
Many times, financial institutions will deposit funds early in employees’ accounts and then post them as “pending” (or “memo-posting” transactions with a Monday settlement date. Some financial institutions may post funds to personal accounts early as a courtesy, but not all. NFC clients shouldn’t rely on their financial institutions for a Saturday “memo posting” of their Direct Deposit salary payments. Direct deposit transactions are paid on the first business day following Payroll processing weekend. Financial institutions are not required to post funds prior than the actual payment date by regulation.
